Had a good chance the last few days to try these 60-65 hp tractors out side by side at OD's place.
Never really spent much time in the small Valtras before now. From just driving them around dealer's lots I was never really overly impressed with them(liked the Mezzo much better) But all of that has changed!! I put about 15 hours in it pulling a disc and then a tiller, and about 2 hours on the road. I must say I'm very, very impressed with this series of tractor. It might be old technology in an econo tractor, but it sure works good. Burned less than 1 gallon an hour of fuel also. Overall a very solid, well thought-out tractor I feel. Could be a bit quieter in the cab I guess........
As for the AGCO GT(Lambo Sprint)........well it does make a nice atv/runabout,but it gets bouncy very quick!! We had numerous problems with it all weekend. I guess that's why the dealer sent it with the fuel light on......he knew we'd not need to put in any fuel, because we'd not be using it very much!!!!
Both of these tractors were equipped with mfd/cab/air conditioning.......the Valtra had a radio, and front fenders, along with larger tires and extendable link ends. Both carried a best price of $47,000 CDN out the door.........From here it looks like the Valtra won this test.
Hopefully OD can get a NH TN and JD in to try.......A Zetor and MF or Landini,CIH JX and a.........also.

Hey pudds,
Some of it should have been caught by the dealer. The pto would not shift to 540 or economy. The switch (very stupid set-up)would not stay engaged for the pto more than 30-45 seconds. Tractor leaked at front brakes and pto. Could not hook the rototiller up to 3pth(not enough room for lynch pins) but could on the Valtra. 3pth hitch had two positions either full up or down( no matter where draft &position were set) Foot throttle was useless(had to be contorsionist to use it) Cab was uncomfortable, not enough distance from floor to top of seat(knees in the chest feeling, even though you seemed to sit up well). Tractor just did not perform well in the field pulling s-tine(very tight for hooking up to 3pth),or disc. Very bouncy on road at speeds over 30klicks. I feel tractor is not suited to the intended tasks AGCO is trying to sell it for. It did do ok spreading fertilizer. So I could see it work well with raking or mowing also(if the implements can be mounted). The cab mounted exhaust was nice,as was the postioning of the hand throttle........Yes,the tractor looks good.....but looks ain't everything!!

is the GT the Dorado based unit?.........if so, ya.......the cab is not a tall mans ideal environment
lol.......i drove a silver 80 where the 3 pt hitch was iether up of down damn cable controls!
i also drove a silver 90 that the foot throttle was so light you couldn't hold a constant speed..........but that was easy fix...........just drive it like ya stole it!
bounce on the road..........ya a bad trait of many modern tractor
o well.........i hope they get there shit together and listen to the buyers
they need to stick to the silver/explorer based ones

Just heard from OD after his visit to the AGCO dealer. Seems the tractor was not PDIed before it was sent. Ok if that is what you want to call it. That would account for some of the adjustment problems, but this tractor had over 6 hours on it when we received it. So who put them on it,and how without being checked over first?
Even if everything had been adjusted correctly there are still some problems that exist with this tractor for the econo class it is targeted to.
By the way pudds the Valtra was much smoother and more comfortable on the road. Yes,it had bigger tires and weighed about 1100 lbs more with a 3 inch longer wheelbase.

speaking as someone that has done his fair share of road work on tractors, much of the bouncing can be tyre presures. It can be very difficult to get them right. the breed of tyre has an effect too. You can get identical tractors and one bounces and another doesn't.
My current steed had front suspension and bouncing is a fading memory....
Mr Woodbeef are you suggesting that an Italian made item is having quality control issues? Surely not!

BTW, Adam, how do reduce bouncing after 30 kmh? Is this because of oval rims, bad tires or??? I notice front wheels bouncing, while rears are quite good.

Over here they are both being sold in the same segment of the market as econo utilities, along with the McCormick C series,MF 400,CIH JX,Zetor Super,NH TN,etc....... Yes,I agree that the GT does not fit this group very well, and a Lambo GrandPrix would have been a better choice. But AGCO tried to cover too much hp range with this tractor. They are selling them from 45-75 hp. Maybe two tractors would have been a better match.

ZJ
it's a bit of trial and error. front weights seems to help especially if what you are pulling places alot of weight on the tractor. If there is a speed that it bounces just put your foot hard on the floor and drive through it. If your foot is bouncing on the throttle is amplifies the bounce.
There will be a balance point with your tyres where they absorbe the bumps instead of bouncing. Our 8240 bounces on the trailers but the 8340 doesn't. These tractors are wearing the others tyres ( One had the row crops on and we needed them on the other tractor so just swapped them straight over) The 8340 has a full set of weights and is a touch faster than the 8240 but rides nicer.

Seems AGCO is marketing the GT series as "light utility tractors" . This would make sense for these tractors.
