How good of tractors were these? The only German ones we ever saw were the 6-824,633 and 844S models.

Hey,WB. I think there is some who knows better this Ih as i,but i have driven with IH 845,82 HP 4,4 liter engine(same as 844).If i know only difference between 845 and 856 is engine and here tyres.856 have turbocharged 4 liter engine, about 90 HP.
So the answer could be that 856 is as good as 845, with 8 extra Hp.

Hey Woodbeef.
Like Triple F said, there are different engines. The 856 used a turbocharged 3,9 L 4 cyl. while the 844 used a 4,4 L engine. A friend of mine have both but likes the 844 most.

The 856 xl has is a turbochrged 745 xl. They are not half so good as an 845 XL. We sold 20 years Case /IH, 30-40 845 XL but only one 856 XL. The 856 is good for light work, when you need al his power the head-gasket fails. The one we sold had that problem every year as long as he worked in the polders later he bougt an 956 XL and this one has now 8000 hours with no problems.

Hmmm... legends sometimes fail to live up to the expectations too... The 1455 is a living legend over here, many old reds, but also black/reds are running around in my area, used by a dirt contractor, pulling 18 ton Veenhuis dumpers. This contractor few kilometers away from here was disappointed about their CS 150, and the MX's. They have just some MX 170's left of the new ones. I wonder what their next one will be, will they go back to McCormick, or drive repainted NH At my friend's, they have an old 1046 and an 844 loader tractor. They had a MF once, but soon traded it for this 1046. Hey, what ZF tranny does this 1046 have? i saw a ZF mark on the casting.

The 1046 has an 12 F - 6 R gearbox I think it's the sam e as in a Deutz 8006. Over here we had a contractor with a 1455 pulled a 26.000 L manure spreader. An other contractor has bought an 26.000 L manure spreader too, but he has bought a Fendt 924 to pull it.

Could it be also the same as in the Deutz 9505 ?? I drove a 9505 2WD once. strange beast, lots of power, no weight/traction. EXTTREMELY noisey (after 15 minutes on it, your ears begin to whistle...
