Hi Guys,
Don't know if anyone can help?
I'm researching indian tractor manufacturers and the products they make. Most, it appears, are making older more established brands' models such as 30 series Ford or Zetor under license?
Has anyone got any ideas on these models and who is making what?
Cheers
Jim

Cheers for that. It seems many "big" manufacturers are setting up their own sites out there i.e Deere, NH, SDF. Anyone know if MF have a site there?

I think MF sorta has a licencing agreement with Tafe. It should also be mentioned that Valmet had a sizeable production facility in India, and produced tractors simillar to the ones it produced in Brazil.

Here's a fairly complete listing. There may be some small playes missed... Amar Tractor Pvt - assemble the Amar tractor, imported from China. Crossword Agro Industries - build under the Atmak, Captain and Nissan brands. www.crosswordagro.com/Escorts - build the Escort, Farmtrac and Powertrac tractors. They purchased LongAgri in the USA, and and joint venture with Pol-Mot in Poland. Former licensees of Ford (1969-?), Ursus (1960-?), MF and Minneapolis-Moline. Several models are based on Ford designs. www.escortsagri.com/
Force Motors Ltd (formerly Bajaj Tempo Ltd) - build the Balwan and Tempo Ox tractors. "The tractor was designed using Transmission technology from ZF, Germany, technical assistance for engine from AVL, Austria and hydraulics technology from Bosch." The Balwan looks similar to old Ford designs. www.tempoindia.com/
HMT - build the HMT tractor from Zetor technology. In 2005, signed agreement with Trantor of England to build Trantors. www.hmti.com/
Indo Farm Tractors Ltd - build the Indo Farm tractor. Site says they have worked with Ursus and UTB, but they look like Ford's. They have Ursus engines. They announced plans to set up assembly plant in Poland in 2005. www.indofarmtractorsandmotors.com/
International Tractors Ltd. - had a joint venture with Renault called Renault Sonalika International, but Renault/Claas sold 12% to Yanmar, and 20% elsewhere in 2005. Newer designs are Renault-licensed and sold as Renault Sonalika International, Ceres and Solis. Older designs sold under Sonalika and Sonalika International. www.sonalikagroup.com/
Kirloskar - I don't think they are manufacturing Kirloskar's anymore, although information found indicates that they build tractors occasionally. Technology is/was based on Deutz.
L&T - John Deere - John Deere bought out this joint venture with Laursen & Toubro in 2005. Was manufacturing John Deere's for export, and they were sold as L&T - John Deere domestically.
Mahindra - Largest Indian manufacturer. Formerly a joint venture with International Harvestor. They have alliances with Tong Yang Moolsen and Mitsubishi for tractors for North America. Newer Indian-built models appear to be their own design. Bought Gujarat Tractors, (below), and 80% of Jiangling in China. www.mahindraworld.com/
Mahindra Gujarat - formerly known as Gujarat tractors. Built the Hindustan tractor, now Mahindra Gujarat. Based on Zetor. www.mahindragujarat.com/
Mech Bull - small Mech Bull tractor www.mlasia.iitb.ac.in/vigyanashram/vigyanashram/mack_bull.htm
New Holland Tractors (India) - build New Holland tractors.
P.M. Diesels Pvt, Ltd - build under Fieldmarshal and Captain names. Appear identical to Crossword Agro's tractors, but I haven't seen the tie-up. www.fieldmarshal.com/
Punjab Tractors Ltd. - Part of Swaraj Enterprises. Build the Swaraj tractor. Design came from CMERI, Central Mechanical Engineering Research Institute, in India. www.swarajenterprise.com/
Sardar - small 10hp Sardar tractor www.sristi.org/10HPtractor.htm
SAS Motors - assemble the Angad tractor, built by Shandong Shifeng in China. www.sasmotors.org/
SDF India - formerly had joint-venture with Greaves and sold tractors as Greaves and Same Greaves. Now build SAME and Lamborghini, possible their other brands. I believe the new Farmtrac 7-series will be built by Same in India. Some "kits" are being imported, assembled and re-exported to neighboring countries.
Standard - build the Standard tractor, looks like a Ford and New Holland design. www.standardtractor.com/
TAFE - 2nd largest manufacturer in India. build tractors under license from Massey Ferguson. AGCO owns 24% of TAFE. For domestic purposes, sold as Massey Ferguson and TAFE. Recently purchased Eicher Tractors. Eicher was set up in collaboration with Eicher Germany. They later had an agreement with Valtra to produce the tractor sold as the model 6100. Tractors sold under the EuroPower, Eicher and Eicher Valtra names. (Formerly sold as Eicher Goodearth). www.tafe.com/
VST Tillers - build under the Eurotrac, (not to be confused with the Foton-built Eurotrac), Euro-Trac, Eurotrac-VST, Shakti and Mitsubishi-Shakti. Licensee of Mitsubishi. www.vsttillers.com/htm/tract.htm

Farm Trac doesnt build Ursus license, Ursus builds license:
Ursus C45 = Lanz Bulldog Ursus C4011 = Zetor 4011 Ursus C360 = Zetor 5511 Ursus C362 = Zetor 6011 Ursus C385 = Zetor 8011 Ursus 1204 = Zetor 12045 Ursus 2814 = MF 200 series
The tractor series Ursus DID develop on their own in the 70's never made it to the market - only prototypes

No, Farmtrac doesn't build licensed Ursus. But Escorts did. escortsagri.com/insideescorts.htm They first marketed Minneapolis-Moline, then imported MF from Yugoslavia to sell, (built by IMT?), then began manufacturing Ursus/Escort tractors in 1965; in 1969 signed on to manufactor Ford tractors. The tie-up with Ford/New Holland ended in 1996.

The picture shown on that website, where Ursus is mentioned, shows something that looks like a C-325 or C-330... I never figured out if that was the only true Ursus development, or also a Zetor 25A derivate....

jim.......your talking about the old fords........gotta remeber mexico is still slamming them out the door........and then theres the farm trak thing
i once got a email from a man who wanted 2 ford 6600 to export from NZ to thailand.....his intention was to copy them and build his own..........
i don't think he had done his home work on the registered designs.....don't know how he got on
i actually think this guy was related to the guy trying to sell me 50000 fuel filters in a 20ft container fresh of the production line in india, he reckon the colours was different, but they was the same..........lol

hey Jim,
Eicher of India is who you are looking for if you want a Valtra clone. They use the old 365 as a model. Valtra nor Valmet never had a factory in India. Tansania yes,but India no.
Hey Kevanos,
Escort never had anything to do with the Ford tractors until they bought out Farmtrack, who was the Indian builder of sanctioned Ford tractors before the Fiat days.

That's correct. Any previous companies are rolled into the description of the current company.
