This has been brought up before, but once again I'm hearing and reading that GM is seriously considering buying FIAT Auto sometime this summer. GM has already invested a large stake in the company and with FIAT's low current stock price they are planning to make a move while it will be relatively cheap. Where will this leave the rest of the FIAT Group? GM has no interest in farm equipment so what now for CNH? Do you think they will try to stand alone? The same goes for construction equipment and diesel engines. Fiat-Allis, Iveco, Case, etc, etc...... Without the auto division (which is the biggest part of the company, correct?) what will the other divisions do? Consolidate and concentrate on ag, construction, engines, aerospace and so on or be broken up and sold off like IHC? Just curious what you out there think about this......

To add to the ongoing rumor, on another board it was claimed Flexicoil was for sale which was supposedly confirmed by someone working at a distributor location. He claimed there were no takers. Another claimed Agco would take the Flexicoil and Steiger units. As for GM, I get the impression they're back on track and with stories of Chrysler people going over to their side after the Daimler Chrysler deal, I expect alot of forward looking attitude and developments. I don't know if I could see them taking on Fiat.

Why should Agco buy the Steiger unit. They just have the CAT challenger. It will competive to each other. But if they do, the old steiger name will back and also the green paint. And whit parts of AGCO and CAT. Will see.

Rumors aren't worth much, but you never know when there may be something to them. If Steiger would go to someone else, they'd probably get the dealer organization or access to it along with the brand name. As far as I know, only Cat dealers are selling the Challengers so far in America. Maybe there will be some Agco dealers take it on, but there are Agco dealers who could use a big tractor like a Steiger yet. I imagine if Steiger were bought, they would be sold in red and blue with the same corresponding dealership organizations though there could be some tractors sold rebadged as other makes too. This is all speculation and chances are that CNH will stay the way it is.
