That corn head was custom built. The combine companies make a 12 row head, but thats the largest they make it They also make draper heads that are 42 ft wide. That is about the largest size that you want to have. The discharge auger would have to be built longer, and built heavier as well - there is a lot of weight there when you are unloading. On one of the American boards, there is talk of someone wanting to build a 72 row 180ft planter. I think that he is BSing a lot, because the largest planter out there right now is 60ft. If you do want to see a really cool picture, go to www.bigtractorpower.com, go to GALLERY, then click on STEIGER - there will be a picture of a 48 row corn planter. Thats quite the machine.

HOLY CRAPLOAD OF ROWS, BOSMAN!!!
Cheesus, that's one big planter in the bigtractorpower.com Steiger gallery!
A thought on the Steiger with the Amazone-seeder with a hopper in the front: The steiger will already thave a large chunk of it's wheight on the front axle. Woud a front-mount hopper and such a light seeding-unit in the back really be ideal? Worst case senario, he will only swing the rear section of the tractor when turning beacuse the front wheels are to deep into the soil, if not he will at least get some hwavy tyremarks from the front wheels. The drill do not appear to be that big. A normal tractor should suffice.

It's really bigger. Here in Catalunya combines usually harvest with 5 row, 6 row and 8 row. The most common corn head is the 6 row foldable. Because of my combines is small i still use a 5 row corn head.
Some of the new corn heads are built in aluminium, so they are not than heavy as you can think.

I think that the reason why he has a Steiger tractor is not so much for the actual usefullness, as it is more for the noveltyness. If he wanted to make it usefull, he'd put a 25ft drill behind it.
I think that is the fascination behind Steiger tractors - they, along with Versatile and Big Bud, are the classic American big tractor, used on the open prarie pulling a 60ft chisel plow or a 50ft air seeder. Last week, I was driving a Versatile tractor with a 35ft cultivator in a small 30 acre field, and even I was daydreaming of having a big chisel plow behind it going up a long hill in western North Dakota - it is a powerful feeling.
If I had some extra money, I'd buy one of those old tractors, and use it as cheap horsepower - those tractors actually weigh less then you think - they compare nicely to a John Deere 8410
Have a look at the other photo's there - there are pictures of 14 Steigers in a driveshed in Oregon, the Big Bud tractors, and some Versatile shots too.
F6L913: Its not so much the weight of the corn head, but the weight of the grain in a 20ft long auger that is 10inches thick - there's a nice bit of grain there, and it moves along too.
