Interesting that this subject surfaces again especially coming from Fargo. Do you know if these rumblings are pretty recent or anything more specific?

Hey Jim,
Interesting info there. Fargo would fit into Agco's portfolio quite nicely. It would also make a nice addition from Cat's point of view I'm sure.
Do you think that CNH is triming down to a more manageable/profitable company? If so what else do you see being sold off?

Will CNH sell the fargo plant? And who will buy it. Agco is the only Farm Equipmaker wo could make it. Or an investmentgroup, then the steiger name wil return. Or is it just rumor?

A combination of Fiat's financial owes and CNH contiuing losses do not spell business as usual for long. My personal guess is a big change before year end 2002. I don't think that the decision will be internally driven; i.e. CNH deciding something. Either Fiat, or the financial community (lowering bond ratings) will make the dysfunctional New Holland-CIH management team do something to finally generate profits. Sale of one of the two companies may not be out of the question.

Just a little bit sick of hearing confusing things about Fiat and CNH.
I have just "copied and pasted" some press information: "CNH has reported a four quarter 2001 net loss of US$155 million (Euro 180 million), compared with a net loss of US$134 million (Euro 156 million) in the same period a year earlier. Fourth quarter equipment sales rose 7% to US$2.236 billion (Euro 2.6 billion), with agricultural equipment up 14% and construction equipment down 6%."

Just checked www.agriculture.com and went to "talk"and a new post on "machinery talk". A guy claimed that an Agco dealer was told by an Agco territorial representative that Agco was going to stop production of Gleaner and Massey combines and that they were considering picking up some lines from CNH if they start selling off. Of course, someone had heard the opposite. I doubt that Gleaner production would stop in the near future even if another combine line were picked up, but the rumors keep coming. It could very possibly happen. I always think how I never believed the rumors about Fiat picking up CIH, but who knows as false rumors are always flying around.
