Hi,
I want to overhaul our 3cyl 5245, it has been overheated and is getting worse.
Can i put new piston rings in it, without needing an oversized piston?? I spoke to a guy who said something about grinding the liner surface with sand paper when replacing the piston rings.
thanks, Renze

hey Renze,
I'm going to plead ignorance(as if that would surprise anybody,eh) on what type of liners are in your motor, but I think they are of the wet variety. I'd replace the liners along with the pistons and rings, bearings etc...

Hey Renze,
Standard practice here : sleeved engines we replace with new liners, pistons, rings, wrist pins, bearings. Common bore engines: depends on the condition of the block. If in good shape some hone the walls and replace with pistons, rings etc. Not so good shape, rebore the block and go oversize, or have block rebored and have liners made to fit. Know of some on common bore engine that have replaced with just rings and have had good success. Just depends on how much you are willing to spend.

HI RENZE
I,ve just rebuilt a 3 cyl zetor. For the price of new liner, piston and rings it was'nt worth the hassel. You don't get any sealing problems with them or any problem with the liner hieght.
Hopes this helps Rob

I would say for the price of a set of pistons, liners and rings it would be better to change the lot, make sure you clean the block well, where the liner o-rings go, other wise you will have water in the oil!!! You are right again Woodbeef they are wet liners Come on Renze spend a little money on your beloved Zetor, They say in the UK that nothing runs sweeter than a Zetor

Hey Robert,
What have you paid for new liner, piston and rings ? Was it original from the dealer??
Does anyone have experience with "cylinder repair kits" made by Czech Premot or German KS??
A czech guy wanted to sell me a complete set of piston, rings, liner, sealings for 37 Euro per cylinder. Thats 1/5 of the price at the dealer here. How good is the quality?? Our old beast must compete with its legendary predecessor we had, the 4712 with 45 crankshaft hp, but 53 PTO hp....(yes, it gave some more than Mr. Zbrojovka promised)
