World Harvesters by Bill Huxley
Farming Press Books
120 p colour and b/w pics
This is apparently the sequel to another book by the same author about grain-harvester combines. I have not seen the other book but having read World Harvesters I would like to find it.
World Harvesters is not about your usuall strawwalker- and rotary-combines but rather interesting harvesting machinery of other sorts.
It starts out with a chapter on the history of the grainharvesters from the days of horse drawn implements to unusuall sp, pulltype and mounted machines. The book also deals with harvesters of other crops such as potatoes, sugarbeet, forage, peas (my favourite part), rice, fruit, grapes, water-growing crops, letuce and vegetables and much more.
There are lots of good pictures and the text is informative and interesting. On some occations letters from engineers and other experts are included the make for very interesting reading as they ofthen have a different perspective on things than the avarage farmer or machinery enthusiast.
I liked this book alot! If you are into agricultural history, unusuall machinery, factory prototypes and learning of different kinds of farming around the world, I think you'll like it too!
