Versatile Tractors A farmboy's dream
By Jarrod Pakosh
Japonica Press
120 p. Tonnes of b/w but mostly colour pics
This long awaited book is the story of the life of the autors grandfather mr Peter Pakosh who, togeter with mr Roy Robinsson, founded the Versatile company. The story starts with the arrival of the Pakosh family to america as immigrants and continues beyond the passing of mr Peter Pakosh into the Bühler era of today.
I have only one problem with this book. With great interest I finnished it within a few hours! I think there is nothing in it of witch I would not have liked to read more.
I was fashinated by the story of how the family came to America and ran an expanding farming operation during hard times, as was I by how Versatile became a significant industry starting out with simple designs (grain augers) and good ideas (hydrostatic swathers).
The pictures are excellent. A lot of old advertisements and brochurecovers as well as historicall and modern photos.
I would recommend this book to people interested in machinery history and the marketing of ag-machinery. If anything, twice as much text would have been fine by me as I read it with such great interest.
