I heard Claas buildt pull-type combines for the american market (resonably new) a while back.
Anybody seen one? Got a picture? Were they Claas or Ford color? What models were offered?

Laapa, in the late 1980's, Claas built a pull type combine for Cereal Implements (formerly Coop Implements). It had a 52 inch cylinder and was mounted on running gear with bogie wheels made in Canada at the Cereal factory in Portage La Prairie, Manitoba I guess. The running gear had kind of a box beam frame that the combine kind of sat in. Possibly they were built after the Volvo based green pull types were out of production or possibly at the same time. (I think at that time, Vicon had a joint venture with Cereal Implements and were Claas distributors for Western or all of Canada. Coop outlets sold Claas selfpropelleds, sometimes next to Gleaners.) It was probably based on a 96 Claas without engine and operator platform etc. It had a larger, non tapered grain tank holding more bushels than the self propelled combine. It was painted a very dark green with a light green (Deutz color) as trim. It was a nice looking combine. Few were built as PTO combines were going out and Vicon got out of North American manufacturing selling the business to New Noble. Vicon equipment was distributed by other equipment distributors after that I think. Combine manufacture ended then I think. Later, the Portage factory (Portage Manufacturing) built the Massey rotaries (called Western Combine when exported to France for corn harvest - no chopper) and the swather under the Massey name. The baler went to Buhler later I guess and combines and swathere to Agco's Hesston plant. Not sure if all info is 100% correct. There was a pic of one on a dealers site last year. I'll see if I can find it.

Found a couple of pics. Check out www.ytmag.com/cgi-bin/today/cphoto_view.cgi and click on next page to get photos 16 to 30. Number 11 and 13 down the list are the Claas based Coop Implement/ Cereal/Implement 9850 pull type combines. Also on www.agdealer.com/list/view_image.cfm?image=1300214&dealerid=314 is a pic of the Volvo based pull type 9600 which succeeded the orange 960. The 9600 had an extended concave and was classified as a class 4 combine. I think it needed 120 pto horse powered tractor. The 9850 needed about 150 I would guess.
