We run 4 Claas 880's. They all have vibration problems, weather it be in the cutter head or blower/accelerator. Sometimes when we put in new knifes or paddles it wont be that bad other times its bad, and as the parts wear out that changes the vibration as well. So do you guys have a practice you use the help with this problem? Or have some way you balance the parts when you install them? Any advice would be great. Thanks

How bad is it ?
Claas uses a belt drive to drive the various components dont they ? That means no vibrations can be transmitted from one component to the other, causing resonance, so it cant do much harm to the machine, its just annoying.
I hope you replace all blades at once, or at least in axially mirrored order ?

Yes they are belt driven. Sometimes the bearings go out on the drive side but we know when that happens. When we replace parts yes we do all of them. It is very annoying and it does hurt the machine over time with cracking of parts. Sometimes its bad enough to numb your feet.

IF you ever have the drum out, i'd have it dynamically balanced at a specialised shop. I once was at an electrical motor rebuild shop, who also balanced rotors, fans and crankshafts. There is a difference between static balancing and dynamic balancing, i think... But just find one of those shops and have the experts take a look at it...

We have had balancing done, seems to help but not the fix. Once we put in new knifes or paddles it changes it, still vibrates just depends on how bad. The only time its smooth is when we have to put in a new blower 95% of the time its butter smooth. Sometimes cant even tell its on. But once those paddles get worn or the blower gets older back to the way it was. Is there some way to balance things once the parts are on the machine?
