If an engineer asked you what you wanted to change on your current tractor, what would you tell him??
I will give it a start. To start with, I mention the common 2 series problems, like the bad master cylinders and gear selector levers.
I think the reverse speed is too fast for backing up heavy trailers through mud. I have to get into low range for this. The older series had the right reverse speed for backing up havy trailers, but you would fell asleep on other reverse jobs.
The 4wd engagement lever isn't the niceest thing. I would like to have it changed to a tilt pedal on the left side of the cab, against the rear bridge cover. The same tilt pedal on the right side of the cab for the diff lock.
I think most, if not all pre-1990 tractors in this power range lacked a good diff lock operating. When ploughing in very wet conditions, i get a sore leg grom continuously holding pressure on the differential lock push pedal.
...And what would YOU tell the engineer if he asked you??

I think that all things by my tractor...
But,frends i try tell you story from year 1979 or..
OK,i was in some training of combine.trainer worked for Claas. This trainer was originally from Germany,in Finland I give to him name Mr.Claas.
He told story from time when he started work with combines, the start was with Sampo, year 1959 or near. He visited one farm souther part of Finland with Sampo factory chief. They met farmer in field harvesting rye.First the farmer told all kind of things, but immediatly he satrted give negativ feedback of this Sampo combine(model 657,with VW engine, small and weak). He said that the construction is not good beacuse cutter releasing springs are on the straw walkers hood. Chief asked that why?Farmer said that if springs could be relocated he could cut opening to hood and ask his wife push straws with fork out of the combine. After that Chief said silently to Mr.Claas that farmer is drunken.Farmer hear that and jump down from machine and said to chief:DON'T BELIEVE THAT SOMBODY COULD USE THIS COMBINE WITH CLEAR HEAD Sampo representaves left this field......
Hopefully this idea is clear. First, dont locate springs on the combine twice,if work is hard,is easy find tools to make it easier..

Nice story.
Hey, come on guys, be honest !!
i know you have something in mind that you could tell on this topic !! Dont be shy, just admit it, no tractor is perfect !! If you arent honestly telling what you think, i will try to remember various tractors...

Most of all I would like more storage space in the cabs, (Fendt) i carry with my a breifcase, coat, clipboard, instruction books, flasks (2) of hot drink, food box, CDs gloves, paper towel roll, big insulated mug, digital scales, pens, phone and charger wires etc and on the outside of the tractor more space for...shear boths (various), spare points for plough or what ever machine im using, clean water container, air-line, air spanner, hand cleaner, grease gun and spare cartridges, oil spray, furrow-press tow chain, linkage balls and pto adapters, magnetic rear lights for the implement to use on the road when its dark, large spanner box etc, etc. There is just not enough storage space on tractors _period_ (as you say).

Hey, a Zetor Crystal cab would be better for you, i think. A guy once told me that he went to the pub by tractor, they were in this cab with 16 people ;D

Well........after much cogitation, and inner reflection,I've came to answer to this question:
One of the best things that engineers could do is to make it easier to see directly in front of the tractor over the hood.
Seats with adjustable arm rests on more tractors.
Some type of onboard cooler.

Hey Fred,
I've liked the look of the Agrotrons since they first came out. I hear they have some reliability troubles though.

From what I understand "some" is a little bit of an understatement ;D Please someone prove us wrong! 3rd generation models are alledgedly better, but then they are now owned by Renzes' favourite Italian manufacturer:) Second hand models must be cheap for a reason.

The 6718 (built 1976) lacks traction on 12.4-36 tires, and the optional power steering.
the sprung front axle, in combination with the air suspened "Aerolastik" drivers seat is the best combination there is. I can keep quite some speed on bumpy sand roads...
Our Deutz D50 (about 1963) needs an independent clutch, and a better hydraulic installation (80 bar and 20 liters/minute just doesn't work)
But these are all details. Is there something, that every tractor lacks, but would be a great addition to all specific models??

Yep there is one thing every tractor needs
A reliable driver that works 24/7, doesn't want paying, doesn't cause any damage and operates to the tractor/implements optimum settings to give most efficient output.

Well, I guess some of you might remember me and that we recently purchased a demo-ed JD7710.
After putting some 100+ hours on it ploughing a few little things got annoying. Dealer fixed them when we brought it in for warranty service though.
For one thing, we got a front mounted 3pt hitch on the tractor and it is controlled by a joystick otherwise used for front-loaders (Trima I belive). The cab is well designed with room for the leg when you turn the seat slightly to the right (when ploughing etc.), but right where your knee goes is where they put the controll-lever for the front 3pt. Idiotic! Why even bother to design a cab with room to turn if it means you will hit your knee in the lever (or the bracket for it). The dealer relocated it though. Also in sweden we must have a kill-all-electricity switch to disconnect the battery when you leave the tractor (for insurance), this means the little clock inside the cab gets reset every time! (they fixed this too). Another thing, why not use a clock with a 24 hour system, not the US-standard 12 hour AM/PM system. But I guess if i have to bitch about the clock I really don't have any major complaints. It is running good. It replaced an old IH1455 (witch we still have around for other jobs) so I really don't have any new or modern tractors to compare with. I must say though I am really getting used to resonable ergonomics, 4 step powershift (PQ tranny), aircondition, suspended front axle, muffler (as opposed to straight pipe), working radio and so on. Me happy! (solid...stable.... hommm... solid... stable)
Other than that I guess more storage room would always be nice. Been going through quite a few sharebolts etc. lately. Perhaps storage outside the cab?

I believe the engineer has to ask me what I need, before he' gonna construct a machine. an Engineer can tell You, why machine must run, but a practical can tell You, why it cant work.
Only my impression
