I was looking at some old pics of a Volvo BM 800. Is the steering wheel slightly offset to the right of the tractor? Not by much but a tad bit.

Well, the steeringwheel is slightly to the right of the dashboard if you look at it, however I have never noticed it while driving. It seems an offset steringwheel would take it's toll on the drivers shoulders etc.
It seems it is not quite at the center of the cab but it is no problem. Perhaps it is the dashboard that is not centered or the driverseat is equally offset.
Guess this does not answer your question much...

Hey Laapa,
Thanks, that's what I was looking for. Not sure if I was seeing things or not.
I wonder why they do that? CIH did it with the Maxxums,so how many other brands have done it also?
I was starting to wonder if the future Mrs,had gotten ahold of the remote control, and had it reprogramed to work on you instead!!!

Off the top of my head David Brown 900 and MB trac 1000, don't know if the other MB's were. Belarus also, most I think, can't tink of the models though.

Hey WB,
Nuffield steering wheels are offset slightly, we have 10/60,3/42 and uni 3,
MB trac 1000 the seat and wheel are slightly to the right (to make room for passenger, I suppose)
RJS.

Zetor Crystal, about 5 or 6 centimeters to the left (there's more room on clutch side than on double brake pedal side, for the steering column)

O.K. now so it looks like quite a few tractors were made this way. Anyone know why?

Woodbeef:
I tried to explain my thought on this, but it seems i wasn't clear enough.
i meant to say: On the left side, you have just one clutch pedal. On the right side, you have two brake pedals. It's easier to put the steering column, including steering wheel, a bit to the left, so that the right-hand brake pedal is easier to operate.
This excentric mounting of the steering wheel is not a problem at all, in fact, it has an advantage: On most tractors, the controls for tranny, 3P hitch, external hydraulics, is mounted on the right side of the driver's seat. This means that the driver usually uses his right hand to operate these, and his left hand to steer. And then, it is favourable to have the steering wheel more in line with the arm what operates it.
How does that sound?? It just crossed my mind.

The Kharkov has it's steering wheel in line with the driver's seat, just the whole assembly is not in the centerline of the tractor. On the Kharkov, it's more like a truck.

On all John Deere 6000/6010/6020 the drivers seat is not really in the middle, it´s just a few centimeters to the left.
