Does anyone have any info on DB's Auto tranny that they had in 1961? Seems no one was ready for it yet,so it was shelved. Any more info out there?

Woodbeef , I think there were a couple of development tractors running around west yorks. Based on 950 model Probably some of the technology rubbed off in the later Hydra shift. Expat

Renze Yeh the Hydrashift was a four speed Planetary unit. Bemoaned by many and loved by some. Seems like if you kept the oil clean and changed at correct intervals then it was good. The gearbox and hydraulics shared oil so easy to contaminate. Trouble was like all such units very expensive to repair. I have found it quite sluggish on changes. Don't know if that was because the gearbox had problems or what. I think most colours had a bit of reputation, but some must have been stronger than others. IH Torque Amplifier and JD HiLo had a reputation for problems but I've not seen such.

David Brown really made named HydraShift gearbor. It had 4 steps, and if i remember the first model was 1212,model 1210 was with conventional gearbox.
Later 1412,1394,1494,1594 and 1694 had HS gears.
those models weren't very common, but near us one contractor had first 1212 and then 1594 HS.He survived somehow with those, but he drove carefully and he always said that risk to loose gears is reality.
Anyway driving those models were good, maybe the feeling was too good because i had the first possibility to drive with some kind of PowerShift, and only on the road.
My understanding is that those models are out of operation, reason is what Fred said, repair costs.

Renze I own a 1394 hydra shift year1987, red and black. Hydra shift is good but Ialways let it run to warm up before use. You have to remember to down shift if you stop in 3rd or 4th and want to set off again . Otherwise transmission jumps 2 or 3 gears( not good)after a few yards.Usually I go back to 2 then it just shifts one step.
