I'd say by your question you are from the States, since you've not heard much about Valmet. You should be inquiring actually about Valtra tractors,as Valmets are now known as. The best thing to do is find your nearest dealer and get him to send one out for a demo. Use it side by side with your current tractors, and you'll see what the Valtras can do. To find your nearest dealer www.valtrausa.comFor more tractor info follow European A's link above.

Hey woodbeef
Been lookin around the valtraUS site and at the dealer list. Seems they've not got any dealers on the west coast states and some smallish states out east have quite a few dealers. Would this be because some of these states have many more dealers anyway or is the Valtra brand getting bigger due to reputation in those areas. Is West coast due to them not updating website or tractors not suitable or what. Hope that makes sense! Any one in US seen them about?

Hey Fred,
Valtra has just recently put a company man in charge in the States. They started out in the mid-west and east coast areas first, and have been steadily moving west.
In the States they are attracting quite a few Main-Line dealers to the brand. I know of Cat,CIH,Agco,MF,and NH dealers who are selling Valtras.

'JD now but',
Valtra have been over here in the UK for a fair while now. Historically they never really made an impact on the market. However over the last 12-16 months they have really taken off. They have just launched a new range and design so make sure you get the new one on demo not the older version. You can tell this pretty easily with the main difference being the bonnet design (new one is rounded and the old one is square).
Their reputation in the UK is a reliable, well built tractor that lasts a long time. I would put their build quality alond side of Fendt.
However it depends on which JD your using as to whether you would like driving them. I drove a 260hp one recently and I thought that the overal machine was fantastic but I did not like the interior. I had also driven a JD 8520 and I must admit I preferred the JD interior! (and I dont really like JD at all).
You have got to try one before you buy but I dont think you will be disapointed. Whether they can convert a deere users is another thing.
Keep us posted on the outcome.

Hi ya well kinda depends where ya are ..i know this sounds strange but i'l try and fill ya in ..i worked in Oz for a year or so driveing JD's CIH and other USA made 4 wheel drives (not FWA in over 200 Hp) on coming back to NZ the farm i worked on had SAME's and then got 2 7700JD'S they lasted a year then we got 2 CIH 5130 and 7210 .had a great run with them ..in some ways the valtra i have 8350 (2001) is like the older JD's /CIH built strong and eazy to work on ,the cab is a bit small but ya do find this with most euro made tractors ..the new models i have not seen up close so i can't say if good or bad ,in some ways i'd look for a runout model IE the last of current models ,ya know they have been around and people know how to work on them ..a new model may be good looking but for most farmers being a test driver dose not pay the bills ..2 or 3 years down the track i look at the newer one ..i'll also say i did not have a test drive before i got mine ,once ya know there background ya know these tractors were built to last with less brakedowns catch ya JD Kid

You cannot go wrong if you buy a Valtra. They are just as good of a tractor as a CNH, JD, or Agco.
Probably the biggest thing to consider is financing options, dealer flexibility, etc etc. A lot of times, that is why Green people stay Green - they find JD service is hard to beat.
But as far as the machine itself - buy it. All tractors have their quirks anyways.
