Hey pudding,
Naw, they had the 248. There seems to be a few of them running around here and in Quebec with 6000 hrs or so with no troubles.

hmmm...........ya would be right its hard to judge machinery reliability by personal opinion, cause you are getting a opinion for the largest and most dangerous variable to the machine......the moron in the seat also i don't know if this tractor is doing 300hours a year or 1000hours a year!..... lol, there i appolagise for the miss leading last post 248 motor is whats in my fathers MF285, and a bunch other fergies........he likes it, the 248 is a big seller.........we that motors is everywhere laters pudding ;D

You should have a look at following things: Which gearbox: Is it A-B (32/32 with Hi-Lo) gearbox, with 30 km/h no problems with 40 km/h you should test this. Frontaxle (MFWD) : Look how much it is worn out. Electrical: Test everything . Main problem is Earth/ground. Easy to fix if you know to look where it comes from. There are two connectors which were not sealed enough against water and waste.
Tractor is reliable and runs without probs. Maintance is the big case like on every used machinery.

Hey, about MF A-B tranny, i remember there was an advertisement in the magazine Boerderij few years back, a group of farmers and contractors wanted to get in touch with other A-B transmission users, to stick together, and bring their problems with MF to law court.
