Well now.........the true definition of the word "hick"is:
The Hicks were very prominent farmers from Long Island(somewhere between what is now Coney Island and Kennedy Airport) who used to provide quite a bit of the vegetables,eggs,milk,and meat to New York City. Since the City people frowned on the country folk,and the Hicks family was the most well known,the word hick came to be associated with being from the country!

I was thinking Hillbillies were the two big headlights on that woman's chest... dirty me....
So' it's similar to what we call scrap iron traders in Dutch: iron jews. The jews were known as traders, and many of the scrap iron traders were jews, just like most bankers and jewelry traders.
Because most of them were jew, their nickname became iron jews.
