the 2040S and 4040S and 4240S were specifically for the euro/non- american markets, and to the best of my knowledge were german
the main diff compared to the US 4240 etc, was the S series had the mechanical front asist.....american was hydraulic
dunno what the 4350 was......was that south american

The 2040S was 75 din HP while the 2040 was 70 din HP and introduced in fall 81 at same time as the SG2 cab. The 4040S and 4240S (115HP and 132HP) were introduced at same time in 1981. The 4040 was 110HP and 4240 128HP (DIN again), always confusing US and European ratings. The 4040S and 4240S were the first with castor angle steering (where the wheels lean for tighter turning) and only available in FWD/front wheel assist. There was a disk brake on the front drive shaft which gave great stoping abilities, far better than engaging FWD to help, on narrow lanes you could really frighten car drivers with last minute stops at their bumper! They were assembled in Mannheim with Waterloo components. The 4350 was introduced in 1986 as replacement for the 4240S and the only difference I can see is its 140HP(din). All three models were only available with the quad range transmission. In the UK the 4050 and 4250 replaced these models but not until about 1988 or 89.
