Whats the general opnion of these tractors. Around here in mid england not many people have been that pleased with them.
They are being sold off a bit cheaper now since the launch of the MXM tractors so are they worth a look or not?

Lee,
Cannot help you with the 135. I do know of a MX120 which has given good service to its owner. Maxxums are not real popular here. The ones that are around have been mostly good, at least thats what I have heard.
Are you thinking about trading one of the 5250s for a MX?

Kenjar,
Thinking of trading them both. Only because we had a visit from our friendly JCB dealer to tell us about fastrac contract hire at £9/hour. All service is included. We only have to add fuel and labour.
It just got us thinking so I thought I 'd look at all the tractors on offer.
Both our 5150's are getting on a bit and showing signs of weakening from time to time. Head gasket has just gone on the older one, which also needs new tyres really.
I've done quite a bit of roadwork recently and I must admit I now dread having to get on one of them and travel for 20 miles on the roads around here as they are pretty bad really. Very bumpy.
Just exercising our options - we probably wont do anything as over all they have both been very good machines. The older one on the Dyno test was pumping out 149hp on the PTO and we have not touched it in any way. It supposed to be 125hp. They are not balanced that well as we needed to add some extra weight to the front to get traction in the field.
I dont think any of the manufacturers are matching JCB's offer at the moment.

The Doppstadt trac has bigger tires, and more traction. I really advise you to at least look at it. But, it reaches only 50 km/h instead of 65 to 80 for the Fasttrac.

Lee,my cooperation farmer have MAXXUM 5150.MX120 adn MX150.I have used all those little bit, only 5150 is used more, naturally. As i know they don't have had any special problems.
The hookconstrustion of MAXXUM,which is used in Finland isn't very good.It works if driver is carefully but if not,the locking meachanism could broke. This part in MX series is different.I have welded once same owners, older MAXXUM trailer hook.
One thing what i must say is 3-hitch lingage operation ,it need training and it's too complicated for part time drivers. But,those MX 120 and 150,they have power in engine and they work,as i know, well. Also cabin is better as older model have. How they survive in long run is different discussion.

If the Doppstadt isn' fast enough, why not look at an Unimog? appr. 80 km/h. Front PTO, Front 3point, good cab. Only problem: Very expensive I believe and not for hire by Daimler-Benz.

...Or even build your own one??
pick some Raba axles, Eaton or Twin disc powershift, some standard on-shelf leaf springs, two standardised front linkage sets + PTO (mounted front and rear) and an old Scania torpedo cab and nose.
That's just an idea. Personally, i would prefer to use the Raba axles with a Tatra V8, Praga 2 speed torque converter tranny (from railway locomotive, weight = traction) a big load-sensing oilpump, and a homemade 3 point hitch with controls of an old Crystal. And the Forterra cab.

I have not heard desperatly good things regaring the MX range in general. They are simply not a match for the old 51's we have a 5120 that is 9 years old and still goes well as a 2nd line tractor. The old ones had a build quality far supperior to the newer mx's. What is the general impression of the new mxms.

I drive a y2k MX135 and of the 150+ tractors I';ve driven it's easily the best. The problems have been:
1 fuse; 1 headlight relay; 1puh cable; tilt mechanism for steering wheel.
The transmission is a bit old school, but the shuttle works very well. The engine has got plenty of guts, though the potato harvester presents no problem for it. The cab is a pleasent place to spend a working day, good AC, roomy, quieter than our newer massey's.
A poster made a comment about the hitch controls being difficult to work. There not. And the load control works well. But the hydraulics are a little noisy.
Mines got front suspension, don't buy without, this is 2003 for god sake!
They are a very good reliable tractor and you will be pleased with one.
