That's good to hear, Martijn. What area were you in? I wonder how dealers and farmers are doing with the bad drought? I have heard on the internet (unofficially) that the big Agco (French built) Agco tractors will have to be redesigned to accept the wider Cat engines in the frame. Reportedly, the new MF/Challenger combines will have Cat engines and tractors will eventually have Cat (no surprise). This will take about 2-3 years. It could mean an eventual redesign of the MF though not in the near future. My guess is that the 450 hp will be built by Buhler, but that is only a guess. I heard that was one of 3 possible sources for such a tractor.

Last week in the local AGCO dealer they told me that the a new 8200 serie (not sure about the name), will be released this new year and probably they will come with the Vario trans in the Massey version.
It could be true? Or only a marketing to raise the Masseys?
Anybody has listen something like this?

This has been mentioned quite a bit over the last year or so, but I simply can't understand why AGCO would try to do this?? The market for large artics is the most limited of all tractor models yet they are also the most expensive models to develop and produce. Now, with the Cat Ag line, doesn't AGCO have the large 400+ HP market covered pretty well? What else could have been their reason for acquiring this line if it wasn't to appeal to the large tractor market? If they were going to bring out a new big 4wd anyway, then why buy the Challenger? Now I realize that JD and CIH have both artics and track models, but they are also bigger and can absorb the cost much better while going after this rather small market. In buying the Challenger, AGCO would pick up some of the big hp market it didn't have at relatively low cost in development and production. What percentage it didn't get with this deal would be marginal and thus not worthy of further investment. I don't know........... Now with an independent Buhler do they think that there's enough market share left to justify an all new biggie? Some speculate that Buhler will be the source, atleast in part, of the MF 4wd. Well, it would help Buhler pick up some extra sales and expand their dealer base and provide AGCO with a relatively cheap tractor. Maybe, just maybe............ How about AGCO supplying Buhler with implements and combines (Gleaner) in exchange for Cat powered Versatiles? Win/win situation, huh? Forgive me guys, just up late and thinking out loud.............

Joe,
I agree with your first comment. There is no reason why anyone else should enter the four wheel drive market, at least right now, thats a recipie for disaster.

The main reason I can think for having a Massey articulated tractor of that size would be to supply those dealers who need a tractor like that and will not have the opportunity to sell the Challenger. Alot of those dealers would be in Canada and some in the US plains and corn belt. Surely, there would be a limited number of dealers (siimilar to Agcostar) that would sell such a tractor so I would not expect to see alot of units produced. I don't know how inportant tracked tractors are becoming in drier plains like areas. Maybe wheeled tractors have more of a future there in drier conditions. The 450 hp is desireable for pulling those big airseeders that are everywhere in Candian Prairies. I remember talking to a Saskatchewan Agco dealer was happy with the 425 hp of the Agcostar when it came out because it had the power to pull the air seeders used there. As it seems Cat designed tractors will be sold under the Challenger/Cat organization so far, I would expect some other tractor either a Versatile based or modernized Agcostar to be offered. I guess we'll see if it materializes this fall.
