From Company: "We've combined a classic player's shape with a number of TaylorMade technologies. Thediscount golf clubs entire set utilizes our 'Inverted Cone' clubface technology for added ball speed on offcenter hits. The foam-filled 3- through 5-irons are designed to launch high, enhance distance and improve feel and sound."
TaylorMade R9 TP Irons feature a chamber behind the face of the club that is filled with an almost-weightless foam and a silicone shock absorber positioned directly behind the center of the face in the 3- through 6-irons (above). While the foam and shock absorber help to soak up unwanted vibration, TaylorMade claims the design also leaves the face more free to flex at impact and rebound¡ªlike a thin-faced driver¡ªfor added distance. The heads of the long- and mid-irons are large, with a low center of gravity to help players get more distance and height on shots. The heads of the short irons are slightly smaller to increase playability, but they still have an undercut channel in back to add height and spin. TaylorMade says the soles of the R9 irons are specially beveled to reduce turf resistance and help the bottom of the club glide through impact.
From Testers: Among the longer, more forgiving models; short TaylorMade R9 (http://www.golfgreatsale.com/discount-TaylorMade-R9-TP-Irons-sale-954.html)irons, in particular, go up to one club longer on solid hits; shots get airborne very easily and fly on a high trajectory; compact head with a slightly thicker topline is appealing in address position. However, lacks crisp feel on finesse shots; some testers find other models easier to maneuver; not necessarily a seamless transition feel-wise throughout the set.
From Customers: The TaylorMade R9 TP are aimed dead center at the Scratch to Low Capper who wants just a little forgiveness without giving up their shot shaping ability and blade like control. Unlike the Callaway Forged Irons (both X and Diablo), which can be a crossover all the way up to Lower Mid-Cappers, these performance machines are best served by those with handicaps under 10. They are definitely a bit more refined than something you would find in my 14/15 capper bag, but I enjoyed using them for the following reasons.
