Yes, Kenjar, when you mention it, i remember it was the 8300 or so. It was used by a wood company, which used it to haul logs, cut treestubs and heavy bush, and then replant the forest with new trees.
I think the 8300 was the old series, like they had the 8080, 8100, 8130 tractors and so.

hey Woodbeef from reading this I thought you where from America and if you are why would it really matter what platform Steyr uses they aren't even exported to Us. The second point being I read all the EU sales reports and they obviously don't sale that well so there platforms they have now must not be that great. I may be wrong maybe your from Germany and in that case you don't go by total tractors sold ex. fendts vs Jd, now if you look at the numbers sold you would say Jd won but I read a post on one of these threads where someone had added up all the horsepowers of the models sold and declared Fendt the winner, give me a break. I find some of the stuff on here very funny thats all, like the guy who said his ford 6640 was a terrible tractor because the clutch stopped working at 70 hours so he got rid of it come on what kind of chance did he give it to be able to say it was a bad tractor at 70 hrs with one problem. Woodbeef only the Steyr comment was for you, the rest was just rambling.

Well, Jim, I'm not trying to speak for Woodbeef but I think I know where he comes from. He is in Canada. Now while they claim to be an independent country up there, we all know they're actually just the 51st state waiting to happen Just kidding folks, please no hate mail ;D Anyway, I also believe he has a Steyr tractor-one of the smaller ones. I believe they are still actively marketed in Canada. However, even if he didn't own one or had never seen one in his life his interest in them would still be valid. He, sort of like me, is interested in the ag industry itself. The inner workings, business decisions, the little known facts......almost the "trivia" of the ag machinery biz. I fancy the Renault and Zanello machines although I've never seen or been on one before and with good chance probably never will. But, I still am interested in them. And yes, judging a tractor by only 70hrs of use is kind of rash if that is what happened. Oh well....I'm just a little hornery tonight so please forgive, eh.......

Hey, at least Woodbeef could make the right judgement on the Ford 40 series in that 74 hours. A contractor i worked for had some of them, lots of trouble with clutch and powershift. (7840, 8240 and 8340) Their 8670 Genesis cracked a piston before it was 5 years old, and their 8210 wore 2 shafts and 3 sets of gearwheels at 9800 hrs. Well now........ Jim,
Since you have never had the chance to actually experience the technology of Steyr,I can see how you think they are not that great of a tractor. Yes,they are produced in small quantities. I'd say though that the sales each year are pretty much all they can produce in St Valentin.
The difference that you must remember with smaller tractor manufacturers like Steyr,Valtra,Renault,Fendt is that they are technology laden, not mass produced also rans like come from some other tractor companies. These are the companies on the cutting edge of technology and ergonomics. what they develope other companies incorporate into their own.
As for my worry about Steyr going CNH platform.........well I'm affraid until you get a chance to experience a Steyr 9000,9100 or CVT first hand you'll never understand. Even an older one would show you what I mean too.
Yes,that was me that offed my Ford 5640 after only 74 hours. I felt that it was a dangerous and undependable tractor. Fiat's way of handling the known problem(fix only once failed) was also instrumental in my decision!! It's hard enough dealing with unforseen trouble, let alone a known accident waiting to happen!!

Guess what the contractor (the Ursus guy) came up with, on our neighbor's land this evening:
A Steyr 8300 !!
It had a Niemeyer triple mower in front. 8.5 meters of working width. Together with the Zetor/ZTS 14245 with front and rear mowers, that means 14.5 meters of mower on one piece of land!
They had this second hand machine on trial. At this moment, i hear my other neighbor driving away with his Steyr 540.

Hey Rich,
Yes, it is one of those Beauvais produced Steyrs. It used Valmet sheetmetal, and the Valmet/Steyr engines. so I guess each of your points is correct,eh!
