It's not very busy here. Are you guys all harvesting??
We dont have much to do on the farm. Mondaymorning, we had a truck bringing 9 m3 of concrete. we made a silo, to be used as a stable manure stockpile. Not because we needed it, but because the government wants us to. They want a fluid resistant floor under the manure stock, so the water can't flow to deeper ground water.
We are not very busy on the land at the moment. We dont have wheat this year, our neighbor's grains are still not ready for harvesting. We might buy his straw, for our 18 horses.
We might have the best maize crop of our district, this year. We planted it really late. Our neighbor's maize catched a cold, and is partly drowned by excess rain during spring. Just as many other fields in our area.

Here crops look really good. Combines are out harvesting grass-seed. Rape will probably be harvested beginning next week. Otherwise pretty slow around here too. Hope you´ll all have a nice summer!

Hey Renze, It's raining here, the first Barley wont be ready for 2 weeks, the last Wheat will be ready probably end of September. We don't grow any ourselves, but buy and bale 150ha of straw for our beef cattle. As for the Maize, if it's taller than 15cm, it is a good crop . In some areas the weeds are taller than the maize. I have seen some grown under plastic, which was very tall (75cm+). Let's hope for a dry harvest. Richard.

Richard_Sutton:
According to your E-mail adress, you're in the U.K. That is about the same climatic zone as ours in the Netherlands.
Our maize is about 1.90 to 2 meters high, i can hardly look over the field when walking between the rows.
But, we also had some poor corners on our land, where it is about a meter high under the trees, and 40 cm on the wet spots. But, i'd say, we should have no complains, when compared to the small and hollow grown fields around us.

We are about 2 weeks away till the grain sorghum will be ready to harvest. The corn(maize) will follow about a week later. The grain sorghum is good and the corn is only fair. Very nice photos F6L913, and good harvesting to all.

We're about 1 week away from wheat harvest, but everything here needs a drink. It is fairly dry - we haven't seen a good rain in about a month.
I don't think our wheat will yield too well - 65-75bu/ac. A rain would have filled up the heads better.
Corn, soybeans, and navy beans look decent, but they need a rain. Our sugar beets look exceptional - they're well on the way to an excellent crop.
Like I said, we are useless until we get a rain. The crops are "hanging on" more then anything

UK- 3 days of sunshine and were in the barley. Rape about 10 days but wheat is still way off.
Most people here are still trying to make hay but the wet weather is playing havoc with them.

Sounds like most of you have earlier seasons than here. Wheat harvest is at least a month away though lowest elevations are beginning harvest. Green pea harvest just started. A short heat waved may have stopped early season peas as some are turning yellow. Dry peas and lentils need to be sprayed for bugs, but winds have grounded airplanes so they're a week and a half behind on aerial application. A little hay is being made, but since cattle have almost disappeared on most farms without range land there is little made here now. One family makes grass hay that is sold to local western horse enthusiasts, mostly women living in town.
