O.K. now that I've found what you guys were talking about at www.farmphoto.com/homestead/message.asp?dsply=all&mid=7153It kinda looks like a Fendt version of a County, cum IH 2+2 with out the joint. Is that the exhaust coming out of the hood and going through the bumper to the other side? How many of these were built? How expensive were they compared to the competition? All in all a decent looking tractor!!

Hey Woodbeef, yes, it was a decent looking tractor allright. It is the exhaustpipe on the side there. How expensive? Can´t really remember for sure but somewhere on my harddisc something tells me that at the time when we tried to get some of them out on the swedish market the Case 4894 was dumped at 518.000 SEK (swedish kronor) and we calculated a price of around 650.000. That´s 25% more for 50 Hp less, thus none of these were ever sold here. This was around mid -80:s and you shouldn´t take my figures for granted. On some earlier topic I´ve given some technical info on these machines (for example the 11,5 liter MAN-engine) Don´t know how many units were sold. There were three models you know - the 620, the 622 and the 626. Was however a nice tractor.

Hey HPP, How many cylinders are we talking about on the 11.5 liter MAN? Inline 6 or V type 8? Around 260hp and now Fendt gets that from a 6.9 liter MAN in the 926. Things have sure progressed the past 20 years. Sure looks like a healthy brute. What was its replacement , the 800 series? Here is another photo of the 626. I give Renze credit for this one. www.farmphoto.com/homestead/message.asp?dsply=all&mid=6078TEXTTEXTTEXT

Yes, sure it was an answer to Schlüter. As I´ve said before on another topic Hermann Fendt and Anton Schlüter were rivals. Oh, I´m sure they were kind of friends as well but you know - kind of a healthy relationship I guess. Anyway - here´s me trying to answer some of your questions: Kenjar, - Inline 6! With a wonderfully smooth run. I´ve told it before somewhere, but it was so smooth that you almost had to check the rpm-meter to be sure that it had started. This of course also was due to the way it was built. There was quite some space between the engine and the tranny. As you can see on the pictures the engine is way up front. The 626 had a turboclutch, ZF 6-speed transmission with 3-step PS. Replacement? Well none really. The production of these beasts stopped somewhere around -85. I remember once in -86 or -87 I had requests from two different customers on 626. I was then told from Marktoberdorf (Fendt factory) that they still were made on request. Never sold any though. We had to wait until -93 before we could enter the 200+ Hp-market for real. Tough times. About displacement and evolution in engine technology again : Yes things have happened in twenty years but this MAN engine in the 626 I must say was really something else. Today we talk about rated power at rated engine speed and maximum power at somewhere lower revs. At that time we didn´t. We knew the 626 as a 260 HP machine but when you checked the engine curves you could tell that the 626 was really a tractor with around 290 HP as max power. The picture from Renze : Yes, that´s nostalgia to me! You see that pic was the cover of the 626-broschure for some years. There are better pics of the machine though. Man, if I had a scanner!

Hello.
Yes, 6 inline. We´ve got the same engine in our truck. A contractor nearby bought one last year from Belgium. Looks great and the engine sounds fine. Weak point on this tractor seems to be the frontaxle. He told me only 62 pieces of the 626 were build by Fendt.

HPP, scanners are cheap nowadays. I got a A4 flatbed for 700 kornor two years ago at SIBA. They should be even less now. Only problem I have is where to keep it. Get one, share pictures with us. Once you got it you'll find a million fun uses for it.
By the way. Ursäkta Ni-andet tidigare.

OK Laapa, I´ll consider it. But still, you know I told before that I have a BMW that´s costing me a fortune. By the way : You are excused! No offence!

As always thanks for your Fendt input, and by all means do get a scanner. I would like to see more pics.
It appears the current MAN engines have to work for a living. That 11.5 did it in a leisurely fashion.
