Just having a burst of thought today. Anyone running 50k tractors (JCB excluded because they are pants) and if so why because you need air brakes etc is it worth again you upgrade all the associated trailed machinery. Any thoughts on why our JD goes 31mph in reverse and only 28mph forward should we invest in reverse drive?

We run 4 Fendt 50km tractors but this is standard on Fendt, we indeed had to cange our trailer fleet which was probably the best thing we did it ment that we could bring our trailes up to similar as artic trailers. air/hydralic breaks roll over cover as it will soon be law in Ireland to cover loads while in transport. We carry 19.5t of malting barley in our Thorpe traliers which if we have to make an emergengy stop will come to a halt in 10m

Where abouts in Ireland are you based and are you happy with Thorpe trailers. The majority of them i have heard about are not that good needing bits of work done on them and one owner had the axle go after only having it a short time wouldnt mind but these people look after their machinery as well. What type of Fendts do you use?

In North America, and probably in Europe too, it does take a lot of money to put and keep a truck on the road. I think that it is worth the money to buy a high speed tractor, especially if you are doing a lot of stuff with it - ie hauling grain to an elevator 10-20 miles away, etc. You get high speed, and you get something you can use in the field too. Then again, rates for trucking are so cheap ($6 / US ton), that maybe your better off hiring it out, then doing it yourself. I'm going to post this question on www.agriculture.com, and see what the response is

We are based in Cork about five miles east of the city, we originally were buying 2 24ft smyth trailers but on going to see the smyths they had to silage trailers that had capsised on the first load. So we had to think again so we went to John Mc Mcarthy agris sales who moreless are selling all the Thorpe trailes. To reasond for buying these trailes were that the axels were 6 inches wider then Smyth Trailers as well as it was brand new axels he used (ROR). As for the tractors we have two 716s ,916 and 926 and have just ordered our second 926.
