We're in the hay business and might be considering a semi tractor in a yr or so and have been looking around at the different mfg's. My father had polio in his leg when he was a kid so he can't drive a manual so we've been looking at the different transmissions out there. We're currently using a straight truck with a allison and that works well but I've seen the autoshifts being advertised as clutchless (except for starting/stopping) in a 10spd setup and is supposed to be as efficient as a manual. From my understanding their basically a manual trans with a electric controler to let it shift without clutching. Does anyone have any experience with this type of trans and how has it worked and held up? From my experience with our truck, the allision is a great trans but it is a bit inefficient compared to a manual and doesn't have the performance so that's why we're looking toward the autoshift option. Also, the autoshift has more gears to work with. Thanks for any info.
