Not having that much to do with Challengers or Quadtrac's,
I was wondering how long a set of tracks should last, I know it is like the Question "how long is a piece of string" because it all depends on road work, conditions etc but someone must have some Idea by comparing their machines against wheeled machines that they used to operate.
And how much are a set of new tracks for a challenger compared to a Quadtrac

I think I can help you. We recently bought a challenger with just over 1000 hrs on it. I looked at quite a few and most of them are doing 4000 ish hrs before the tracks need changing. I checked with claas on this as well and they said that 4000 is about right but it does depend on soil type and road work.
We are hoping that we will do 3000hrs as we will be on the road a fair bit moving around. Each new track is £4,000 fitted. The Quadtrack tracks should last the same amount of time but cost £12,000 for a set (although simon would know for definate). However I recently saw a quaddy with 2,500 hrs on it with a new set of tracks! So it must depend on the job its doing.
We compared a challenger 55 against our MX270, JD 8410, Fendt 926 and Case 7250 pro. On pure traction and pulling ability the 55 won hands down against all of them. On userbility and comfort then the other were better. But at the end of the day you need something that will do the job effectively not look like a hotel!
We ended up with a Challenger 75 e because we needed 260hp on the drawbar not the engine. Nice machine pulls excellently but it very very bad on the road!!

Noticed in the Profi article that your tractor did not have the biggest set of boots on it how come you didnt put more rubber to use rather than change the tractor? Just wondering.
PS Did your brother know outh about the JD heads or is it just a problem I think they have

my brother said that it was a common thing for them although he did suggest you get it checked out as he knows of one that went and wrote the tractor off. but he did say thats was only 1 out at least 10 he knew of.
boots on the mx were the biggest available at order time. we had the 710 - 42's but you can now get 900 - 42's
I honestly dont think it would of made any difference at all. we were asking to much of it really. as the others we tried could not do the job effectively either it basically wrote wheels off what ever the colour.
its funny really as i now know, to speak to, 19 3 metre solo users. 18 of us are all on tracks now and one on a artic on super singles. but dont you think that it says alot?
