What do you call a large American tractor? Above 200 hp? The NH Genesis tractors are very popular but is it large? The same goes for the Case Magnum. The Agco tractors aren't sold at all, but well we have the MF-tractors. Also popular with contractors are the JD 8200-tractors.
As you have read before the articulated tractors aren't as popular as they used to be. To big, to much fuelconsumption and to little horsepower for its weight are the main reasons for that, i think.

You are well informed apart from one thing, the Case Quadtrac, is probably the best selling +375hp tractor in Europe.

I guess I should have been a bit more clearer! O.K. what I meant was the tractors built over here by CIH,NH and Deere. The big Massey I think was made here for a while too, before Agco moved everything to Beauvais.
Simon: Can you please fill in the blanks for sales? On all of the brands if possible.

Right the Two biggest sellers of above 200hp are JD and Case, with Magnuum and 8000 series, built in the US. The big masseys are Beauvais built, there are a few Whites badged as MF and still a few 4880s Tracked machines the most popular are the cat 45 and 55s, badged over here as Class (not for long I think), and a few Deeres. Big Tracked machines, Cat are now a poor second to the Quadtrac, with Deere selling one or two, all these Us built.
I will try and get sales figures
Let me now if you want any more information
Cheers Simon

There has been a fuzz in Sweden about plenty of MX Magnums having major problems, mainly transmission electroincs i think. Is this true elsewhere as well?
In Sweden I think MX Magnums are (at least until a major ag-magazine ran a story on the promlems) better sellers than the Deeres. NH Genesis are quite common also, I don't have the numbers at the moment.

I bet Quadtrac is a best seller in Europe as well. Since it was launched I have just heard good things about this impressive machine.
Figures would be very interesting!!

Woodbeef,
The 2001 sales figures for just the UK on tractors over 220hp was 465 units in total. Of that 20% was Case IH (MX and Quadtrack), 15% was JD, 10% was NH (ford) and the rest was a mix of Massey, Claas and other obscure makes.
However I recently went to the JD 20 series launch and they are wanting 40% of the market by 2005. However they will struggle to do this with their prices as a 280hp wheeled JD is avaialble for £65,000 UK pounds while a 280hp Case IH is available for £48,000. Both machines are very similar and UK agriculture is in not state to be concerned with resale value, when what matters is the now. If we need a big machine it will go on price - simple as that.
The Quadtrack IS doing well but there is a need for a baby model i.e. MX 270 (280HP) on 4 quads. There is one in the UK and its been tested. We are crying out for one as it will be cheaper than a challenger but better because it will have 4 tracks instead of 2!
Anything else about the UK you need just ask!

Lee, be carefull, a Case dealer (Lincs England) near us was running a MX 270 with Half tracks on the rear, these being retrofitted by the dealer, from a company called Agritrac I believe. It was looked at by Case and the press. In the field it outpulled A Deere tracked tractor, but did not go alongside a Cat. The cost of these tracks was approx £20,000, and I also unerstand that Stocks are developing them. I have a photo somewhere I will see if I can find it. Cheers

What's this.......You mean the whole world does not drive Deere? Man you guys are lucky, you do not know how tiring it is to listen to these color blind-tunnel visioned Deereoids over here. Some of them just will not believe Deere sold badge-engineered Zetors, let alone that they are being replaced by green & yellow Belarus tractors in the future. I must give their marketing department kudos though. Way too many farmers and week-end warriors over here buy the Deere hype lock, stock, and barrel!! If it says Deere on it it must be the best. Now do not get me wrong Deere has made some great stuff, but also some dogs too. Just because it is green & yellow does not mean it's the best that money can buy though.

Woodbeef and Simon,
Thank god there is somebody else out there that does not think JD are the be all and end all of ag machinery. To exspensive and not nesessarily the best at all.
Simon,
I know about the half tracked ones and they have failed basically because they ar emessing with the tranmission gear ratios. Its reducung the life of the tractor considerably. I do however know for a FACT that Case is developing a BABY QUAD in the form of a MX 270. It should be more readily available for demos etc this coming summer. Those other companies that are doing it and charging £20,000 for half tracks are living in a dream world. The proper Case version I am told wil be about 10-15% more expensive than a current MX 270 which is £48,000 UK delivered.

This might in some way relate to the original post. I just saw the top 10 sold tractors inSweden last year. In all tractor sales dropped 14% this year so the numbers are low:
1. NewHolland TL90 (Perhaps the first time ever the #1 sold tractor is NOT a Volvo or Valmet/Valtra), 181 sold
2. Valtra 700, 171 sold
3. JD 6910, 118 sold
4. CaseIH MX135, 101 sold
5. NewHolland TM115, 99 sold
6. JD 6310, 98 sold
7. Valtra 8350 HiTech, 98 sold
8. MasseyFerguson 4235, 85 sold
9. Valtra 600, 77 sold
10. tie between JD 7710 and Valtra 6850 HiTech, 76 sold
Total brand share of market 2001:
Valtra 26,7 % NH 18,1 % JD 16,3 % MF 15,7 % CaseIH 11,7 % Lamborghini 2,1 % Zetor 1,9 % Belarus 1,6 % Deutz Fahr 1,6 % Fendt 1,2 % Same 0,9 % Steyr 0,7 % Ursus 0,4 % Hurlimann 0,2 % Landini 0,1 % Others (less than 5 tractors sold 2001) 0,8%
Total tractor sales 2001: 3754 sold
