I´ve read somewhere Claas is actively trying to buy a tractor manufacturer. Do you know anything about this rumour?

Ya,I've heard that too. They do have distribution links with Valtra in certain parts of the world. But I seriously doubt if Valtra is for sale!! There's been some bigger players than Claas try and buy Valmet over the years,to no avail. www.grazelandfarm.com

Heard about it too. But what is left. As Woodbeef says Valtra is not for sale and Caterpillar is, at the moment, not building any wheeltractors, although rumours say they are still thinking of one. As far as i know there is only one tractormanufacturer for sale; Zetor. And i heard that McCormick is also teaming up with Claas in the UK. Many dealers have both brands. In Belgium, Netherlands en Luxemburg both brands even have the same distributor...

I thought about Valtra or Renault as they share dealers in certain European countries. Some years ago I thought Fendt and Claas would merge but later AGCO appeared... I do not think about Zetor (come on...)European Farmer, I am from Bilbao. I guess you like Deutz Fahr equipment...

I also thought about Renault, but they are tied in with Deere. Of course that means nothing to Deere. Just look what they let almost happen to Zetor!! Now if they look further east, something might be available I'm sure. But would Claas take that route to enter the tractor business? Especially if it is the only choice of an existing manufacturer. www.grazelandfarm.com

To be honest, I do not think any brand is linked to others forever. I still remember the first time I read in Farmers Weekly about CaseIH and New Holland merging(!)... Besides I was surprised when I read about Claas buying a tractor manufacturer. Because of Caterpillar joint venture I always thought Cat would purchase Claas (big fish eats small fish...). One thing is for sure, if Claas want to go into real tractor business buying a manufacturer, they will buy a competitive brand. So, everything is possible...I saw a Caterpillar wheeled vineyard tractor image in www.farmphoto.com

A couple years claas tried to buy LTS. Who manufactured The LT Trac. But they where to late. Doppstad buy it. I,ve seen on the Agritechnika a Doppstad Trac. They,ve had green and red paint like Claas. Not Exactly the same. Maybe Claas will buy Dopstadt. Because Claas invited the Trac in the 70,s and sold it Mercedes!!!

Could be Martijn, but is the Trac concept still interesting enough? Doppstadt doesn't seem to sell much of the tractors they build...

ou are right about Claas interested in Doppstadt a couple of years ago. Anyway, I do not think that is the kind of vehicle Claas is interested in. They do have a system tractor, the Xerion machine. It would not be so difficult for them to build something more simple and cheaper from the Xerion.I think they are interested in conventional tractors. Trac´s and Fastrac´s sales, for instance, can not be compared to conventional models market share.I know Claas has recently tried to buy Fendt from AGCO, but conversations has just ended as AGCO did not want to lose the advanced hi-tech Fendt tractors. No comments about why AGCO are launching those old combines under Fendt colours. Just Sad.
