John Deere New Generation Tractors by Chester Peterson Jr & Rod Beemer.
hmm... "new generation", anybody else come to think of Britney Spears in that Pepsi comercial rather than tractors?
Anyways. This is a paperback publication of 128 p by MBI with mainly color pictures.
It deals with the John Deere 10- and 20 series from the 1960's, the first 4-and 6 cylindermodels after the JonnyPopper-era. A chapter is to the history of JD and how and why the new generaton of tractors were necesarry for the companys survival. The book then tells how the engineers design and finally introduced these new machines. A chapter also is given to the ill fated 8010 as well as the 5000, 6000 and articulated 7000 series of very large tractors as well as some Kinze conversions. It gives a great inside view from the engineers perspective of the development of those great tractors. Yes, it is for the people with Green underwear, but also for everybody else who enjoys a bit of history. One thing I enjoyed was the stories of how engineers tried to make use of computers in the design of transmission in 1950's. Times sure have changed. Lots of great pictures of beatutifully restored machines.
As usual with books of this kind, no othe brands are mentioned. Some coverage of European (Mannheim) buildt machines are included.
