On the lighter side after reading some of the posts below regarding tractor appearance I was wondering what some of you thought that the best looking tractor might be. Brand, color, engine, yada, yada, etc. besides......Who do you think has the best styling? Me? The Fiat F-100 through F-140 series of the early-mid nineties. Clean, functional, not overly done. A close second is the Renault Ares series, but........ What do you think?

The most difficult subject to address for an industrial designer when designing the appearance of a tractor is to match cab and body. So from that point of view: - Deutz-Fahr Agrotron (80 to 260 hp): launched in 1996 (!) it is still brilliant. Forget the latest models:the SDF Group is killing the concept... Besides do not consider weight distribution (we are talking about aesthetics) - Renault Ares: Renault is creating some of the most innovative vehicles. Not just cars,...trucks and tractors too. They have some of the best Industrial Designers in Europe - Valtra S Series: amazing finishing! although the cab interior could be better... From my little experience I would like to talk more about this interesting theme... But I must sleep...

My "blue" opion.
The Ford 7810 4wd Generation III 89-91. Ford 30 series from 89-94 esp. the german models with lowred hood line, and 850mm reartyres look good...... Fiat F Winner series from 90-95 is a great looking tractor. Valmet 6800 Finlandia in the blue metalic look is great too. Renault Ares 600/700.

The old CASE IH XL series (956,1056etc) have always been our best performing machines. Sad to see the last one go about 5 years ago.
But I honeslty think all the more modern designs are quite good. Still a bit unsure about the new bonnet on the JD 20 series. Looks a bit like a shark!
The favorite would have to be the complete Fendt range though!
Good topic!

Well I guess I have to say the 2+2 IHs. For all it's faults the thinking behind the concept is still one of the best Ideas in Agriculture and it looks COOL. Does good thinking and being Cool make it a BEAUTIFULL tractor however, not too sure. My judgement on the 2+2s is too tainted by my own experiences.
Previous posters have listed mainly new tractors. Is this a requirement? I do have a favourite that looks like a winner in the pictures I've seen, The Shlüter 5000 prototype. 500 hp, big wheels and compared to every other tractor this size it looks just beautifull. Some artwork acctually went into the grille other than the boxy tinwork of it's american counterparts. Well, that's the only one that comes to mind at the moment...

Good point Laapa! If we take into account the oldest I can´t forget the International in the 80´s. For instance, the 955A with Fritzmeier cab...Although my favourite is the 1455 AXL in both IHC or Case colours. I agree, Fiat has also designed beautiful models (Pininfarina in fact)

I fell in love with the american tractors from the 60's and 70's. Best looking of all is the rugged Allis Chalmers D-21. Also the MF1100 and the Ford9600 are quite nice. They should have large tires in front and no cab, that's just how i like them.

The alltime best looking tractor in my opinion is the County 1174 - and I also reckon it was the best 120 hp machine of its time.
The Deutz DX range had groundbreaking styling when it was launched, especially when compared to the Fords, Masseys, Leylands and David Browns that were most popular at the time.
Currently I think the Fendt 500 series is the best looking tractor on the market, I find the Vario a bit too radical.
If I needed a new tractor in the morning it would have to be a New Holland TS115 Turbo. It is the spiritual successor to the County 1174. 120hp 6 cylinder 4wd with compact dimensions and weight.

Hello, In my opinion the best looking tractors are: 1) County 1454 2) Ford 7600 RC 3) Versatile TV140(when will it have a powershift?) 4) Deutz Agrotron 205 5) Case Steiger STX 6) Ford 7810 III Silver Jubilee 7) IH 2+2 8) MF 8280 9) Renault Atles 10) ACO 100 11) Ford Waltanna FW35 I think aesthetics have a lot to do with colour. Compare the terracotta Fiat tractors to the blue Fiat tractors and you'll see why my favourite colour is blue!! Greetings from Holland.

Another ancient topic that I couldn´t keep my fingers out of. But this is a great one! I agree with Laapa there : The Schlüter 5000 is (or was) a work of art! Actualy I find it impossible to name your favorit design. There are so many! The Olivers from late -60:s. The Farmall 806. The old BM:s 36 IN GREEN with orange wheels. The Lamborghini Victory is also a great design if this topic is to be kept purely on design and no other aspects. Someone said the new Fendt Varios were a little too much and I have to pleed guilty there. I like it, now that I´ve gotten used to it, especially the 700. But I still think that the first 900:s and the 800:s are the best Fendt-design ever.

I just happen to like some more, than others.

Quite suprised that no one has mentioned the Challengers, I would'nt say they are my favourite but they do look good.(in cat colours)
But I think the Steyr 9100 series are the best looking.
