That's right, that's a german thing. ;D Krone and Claas today with the belgian trouble maker NH in the middle of the two and their V12-1200hp monster chopper. And tomorrow, Krone, Claas, NH, Deere and Fendt. The more the merrier... ;D

The New Holland FR series is a close copy of the Claas, but with the FX series inherent problems, ie blowers cracking, high wearing on all parts, electrical problems, metal detecter not working, and they have a habit of going on fire..... We have a saying that "the only time the claas stops is when we shut it down at night" the FR does not inspire me one bit.

I saw the Claas 494 working here in Ireland last week. Extremely impressive machine both for looks and output. When i saw it it was picking up in the same field as a 900. It was clear to be seen that it had somewhere between 30 and 50 percent more output. It was picking 30ft row of very very heavy Irish grass and filling 20ft silage trailer in 2mins 30. Hard to know how this sort of output could be used in Ireland. From what i was told it is being planned to fit in the market between the likes of the 900 and the big Big X. New Holland watch out

that sounds like it should be around the 800 hp range to me. We have seen similar results, but maybe if crop flow is not as good it could be even more horsepower. But what do I know?

The 494 was in cork a few weeks ago, the common complaint i heard was the pick up couldnt handel the crop quick enough for the capacity of the machine . The machine will cause more headaches here in Ireland, as people are already complaining abot the output of the 900. suckindiesel2 did you manage to get any pics?

They need a TWIN system just like Niemeyer's rakes. First a rough roller positioned 7 cm above the ground (so it can used strong tines that dont bend, because they never touch teh ground) that throws the majority of grass into the chute, then the conventional pickup makes the clean final pickup.

There was a similar thread tothis a few years ago when NH had the "cheek" to challenge Claas dominance in the combine world with the CR980 vs Lex580. As I recall they said Claas would be far too good for NH! Well maybe four years on the 580 is still generally accepted as the better machine BUTNH have made a whacking great dent in Claas market share in UK with CR rotaries The reasons for this are it will clear 2500-3000 acres a year, its a decent proven machine, it looks terrific!, its got a big powerful dealerbase & manufacturer behind it, its resale value is good, its evolving & improving every year and perhaps most decisive of all its lots less pounds than overinflated Lexion ;D Now before the Claas brigade jump up & down Im only stating obvious facts as to why CR is such a success! I personally like the Claas combine just as much as NH product My point is that whether or not new Jaguar is better than NH FR forager is unimportant, if FR is a good machine & NH market it as shrewdly as they have their CR,CX combines then Claas wWILL lose forage market share as well

The 494 series goes up for sale in December of '07. At least that is the rumor I heard.

Got no pics but it was same design as one shown above. The pick up seemed to be going fine but then i didnt see it for long. For a pre production machine it seemed to be operating very very well. As you said, only problem is can anyone in the emerald isle keep the grass away from it.
